Booth Labor
Southern California is renowned for its exhibitor-friendly environment, boasting some of the nation’s top-tier labor. The Decorators Union holds sway over exhibit setup and dismantling, including signs and carpet laying. However, if your exhibit can be prepared, installed, or dismantled by a full-time employee in an hour or less without tools, you have the freedom to do it yourself.
For tasks exceeding one hour, union personnel from either the general contractor or your chosen independent contractor are required.
Material Handling (Drayage)
Exhibitors are allowed to hand-carry items that one person can manage in a single trip. However, the use or rental of dollies, flat trucks, and other mechanical equipment is off-limits. Teamsters take charge of additional freight moving, while the general contractor controls loading dock access and vehicle unloading/reloading. Only full-time employees of the exhibiting company can hand-carry items.
Rigging responsibilities fall under the expertise of riggers.
Electrical
Electricians handle all electrical installations and connections in Southern California. Exhibitors can provide cords, which must be a minimum of 14-gauge 3-wire with ground and must lie flat for floor work. Safety measures include circuit protection for multi-outlet devices like power strips.
Fire Requirements
At the Los Angeles Convention Center, exhibits with closed rooms, multi-level structures, dynamic moving elements, or those exceeding 400 square feet are required to submit two sets of plans/drawings for fire department clearance and approval.
Hours
Working Hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday
Lunch: 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm
Overtime:
- Overtime rates are applicable outside the standard hours on weekdays.
- Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays incur overtime rates throughout the day.
