Booth Labor

In Orlando, the Local IATSE Union (stagehands) plays a role in providing labor for display erection and dismantling, including carpet laying. However, there’s room for flexibility:

  • Full-time employees of exhibiting companies have the green light to set up their own exhibits without assistance from the union, although proof of employment may be required.
  • If your exhibition needs go beyond what your regular full-time employees can handle, the IATSE union steps in. You can order labor through the general contractor or an independent contractor like Absolute I & D.

Material Handling (Drayage)

Exhibitors in Orlando have the freedom to hand-carry their materials into the exhibit facility. However, the use or rental of dollies, flat trucks, and mechanical equipment is a no-go. While there isn’t a specific union governing this function in Orlando, the general contractor controls loading dock access and oversees the unloading and reloading of all vehicles.

Electrical

The Orange County Convention Center provides electricians, but here’s the twist – exhibitors and/or stagehands can handle most electrical tasks. The rules are relatively lax in this department.
