George R. Brown Convention Center

Booth Labor, Freight, and Rigging

When it comes to display erection and dismantling in Houston, Carpenter Local 551 is the go-to union. However, exhibiting company employees have some freedom – they can set up their own exhibits without union assistance. But here’s the catch: if the task goes beyond what your regular full-time employees can handle, you’ll need the expertise of Carpenters Local 551, either through the general contractor or an independent contractor like Absolute I&D.

The George R Brown Convention Center has partnered with 21st Century Expo Group as the exclusive provider for all dock area services. This includes handling materials, products, and equipment to and from the dock area and the exhibit space. They operate all the machinery – forklifts, cranes, dollies, hand trucks – you name it.

Exhibitors are allowed to hand-carry items that can be managed by one person in a single trip without the use of dollies or hand trucks.

Electrical

In the electricity realm, electricians take the lead in Houston. Exhibitors aren’t hands-on with anything electrical. Electricians handle all electrical connections, and while exhibitors can provide their own quad boxes, all other electrical equipment, including flat extension cords, is exclusively supplied by the electricians.
